Home Brewing Guide
Brewing coffee isn't just a chemical process; it's a moment of calm in your busy day. Here is how to honour the bean and get the best flavor out of your Caffivo coffee.
The Pour Over
Clean, Bright, & Aromatic
The Ritual
- 1
Boil & Rinse
Boil fresh water. Place your paper filter in the dripper and rinse it with hot water to remove that "papery" taste and warm up your cup.
- 2
Add Coffee
Add 15g of medium-fine ground coffee. It should look like sea salt. Give it a little shake to level the bed.
- 3
The Bloom
Pour just enough hot water to wet the grounds (about 30ml). Watch it bubble and rise. This is the coffee releasing gas—let it breathe for 30 seconds.
- 4
The Pour
Slowly pour the rest of the water in a circular motion, starting from the center and moving out. Don't touch the walls. Let it drip through completely.
The French Press
Rich, Full-Bodied, & Forgiving
The Ritual
- 1
Coarse Grind
Use coarse ground coffee—think breadcrumbs. Add 30g of coffee to the bottom of the press.
- 2
Add Water & Stir
Pour in 500ml of hot water (just off the boil). Give it a gentle stir with a spoon to ensure all grounds are wet.
- 3
Wait
Place the lid on top but don't plunge yet. Let it steep for 4 minutes. This patience is key for extraction.
- 4
Plunge & Pour
Slowly push the plunger down. Don't force it. Once at the bottom, serve immediately so it doesn't keep brewing and turn bitter.
Moka Pot
Strong, Intense, & Classic
The Ritual
- 1
Fill Base
Fill the bottom chamber with hot water up to the safety valve.
- 2
Fill Basket
Fill the filter basket with fine-ground coffee. Level it off with your finger, but do not tamp or press it down.
- 3
Heat
Screw the top on tightly. Place on medium heat. Keep the lid open so you can watch.
- 4
The Gurgle
Coffee will start to ooze out like melting honey. Once you hear a gurgling sound, remove from heat immediately to stop the brewing. Stir and enjoy.
